On 2018 Feb.6th , the first SKA-P, leading manufactured by China, was formally published in the 54th Research Institute of CETC. This is another important milestone after that the new design plan of the 54th Research Institute became the only plan for the subsequent research and development of SKA. The president Liu Liehong attended the ceremony and made a speech.
The launch ceremony was held by the international cooperation director of the National Technology Ministry Ye Dongbai, the deputy minister of National Technology Ministry Huang Wei, the deputy chairman of political consultative conference in Hebei Province Ge Huibo, the secretary-general of Chinese Academy of Sciences Deng Maicun, the director-general of SKA Philips Diamond, etc, participated the activity and gave speeches.
At3.15 in the afternoon, the SKA-P slowly turned the reflector on the 10- height foundation, passed through the sky, which marked that it was released in the world at the first time.
SKA is the biggest aperture synthesis radiotelescope that the international astronomers plans to build, and is also the biggest astronomical deputy people built in the history, which was funded and built by many countries. As one of the founders of SKA project, from 2013, China finished the research and development of the SKA with other international partners in 5 years. This project is also the second most influential international huge science China participated, after the project of thermonuclear fusion.
In his speech, Liu Liehong expressed thanks to all scientists and technicians who participated in the SKA project. He said that the CETC paid high attention on the SKA project, specially establishing the SKA project leader group and office, pushing the work from the whole group. This also presents the CETC’s abilities of technology and international cooperation.
As Wang Feng introduced, in the next step, the SKA would enter the construction stage. The construction of SKA contains SKA1 and SKA2. In the SKA1, it would cost 6.74 zillion euro and spend 3 years to build 130 aerials. The SKA is a tested stage, which would provide a technology and scientific observation base for the mass production in SKA2.
Currently, the participating countries of SKA are consulting the SKA observatory treaty. It is reported that after building the SKA1, the member countries could obtain the observation time in proportion as their contribution and share the origin data which obtained from the SKA.
