The 55th Research Institute of CETC is one of the large-scale research institutes engaged in the research, development and application of electronic devices.

The institute is mainly engaged in the R&D and production of components, circuits, parts and complete machines in the following five specialized fields: microelectronics, optoelectronics, vacuum electronics, micro electro mechanical system and encapsulation. Its products mainly include microwave millimeter-wave monolithic integrated circuit for communications equipment, multi-chip micro-assembly integrated circuits and related functional components, microwave two-terminal devices, solid-state high-power devices, special vacuum devices, surface acoustic wave devices, silicon epitaxial materials, compounds semiconductor materials and devices; microwave encapsulated devices, flat panel displays and complete machines, computer networks, intelligent building, TV monitors, large screen displays and other electronic information systems.

The institute is both a domestic and international leader in terms of research development and production in the fields of microwave compound semiconductor circuits and MMIC as well as related circuits. It has a national key laboratory of microwave millimeter-wave monolithic integrated circuits and modules, a national project center for flat panel display technology, and a research and application center for optimized active layer growth technology.
